Dodge City softball team got back in the win column on Tuesday as they made up a game at home against Northwest Kansas Tech picking up a 10-0 win in five innings.
The Conquistadors with the win moved to 8-10 on the season and 4-2 in KJCCC play.
Just like the first game against the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Tech back on February 26th the Conqs struck first and scored in the bottom of the first inning taking advantage of an error by the Mavericks and then a
Makayla Garcia RBI triple tallied the first run of the game. The Conqs added one more run in the first to lead 2-0 after one inning and then added to that in the bottom of the second with a pair of RBI doubles by
Stephanie Torres and
Melanie Castro highlighting a three-run second inning to make it 5-0. In the bottom of the fourth the Conqs batted around and scored five runs with a two-run homer by Olivia Oritz starting the scoring in the inning. Torres added a solo home run and Garcia had an RBI double in the frame as the Conqs then recorded a one-two-three top of the fifth inning defensively to gain the 10-0 win in five innings.
K'Lee Flores earned her second win of the season in the circle tossing five scoreless innings giving up just two hits while walking none and stuck out seven which doubles her strikeout output this season to 14 on the year.
Garcia, Torres, and
Melanie Castro each had two hits for the Conqs to pace a 10-hit attack. Garcia finished 2-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, a triple, and double, while Torres was 2-2 with two runs scored, two RBI, a home run, and a double. Castro extended her hitting streak to eight games as she was 2-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, two doubles, and a stolen base. Ortiz finished 1-2 with a run scored, two RBI, and her first career home run.
The Conqs are back in action on Saturday, March 12th at home when they host Hutchinson for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
