Dodge City softball team took on Hutchinson Blue Dragons in a KJCCC doubleheader on Sunday and both games would go down to the final inning to decide the winner. The Conquistadors would, unfortunately, finish on the wrong side of the score falling 10-9 and 10-7 in the contests.

The two losses send the Conqs to 8-12 on the season and 4-4 in KJCCC play on the season.

Game 1 – vs Hutchinson (Lost 10-9)
Both teams would hold leads during the contest and both teams found several ways to score runs. Hutchinson started the scoring with a two-run home run in the top of the second, but the Conqs responded with a five-run bottom of the second. Conqs would get two-out production as Melanie Castro had a two-RBI triple and Kalei Villegas had a two-RBI double in the second inning. Hutchinson got a solo homer and then a two-run homer to tie the game at 5-5 entering the bottom of the fourth when the Conqs responded again scoring a pair of runs. Each team got on the board again in the fifth as the Blue Dragons tallied one run and the Conqs scored a pair but in the top of the sixth Hutchinson took the lead behind four runs. Down to the final three outs, the Conqs worked the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to score falling 10-9.

Conqs had a 12-hit attack in the loss led by Villegas who was 4-4 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a double. While AJ Poell went 2-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI. Game 2 – vs Hutchinson (Lost 10-7)
The Conqs fell behind early in the second game as Hutchinson plated a pair of runs in the top of the first inning but the Conqs got one back in the bottom of the first on a Castro solo home run to make it 2-1 Blue Dragons after one inning. Hutchinson continued their scoring by plating three runs in the top of the second and carried a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the third, the Conqs would get seven hits with six-straight to open the inning and score six runs to snag the 7-5 lead as a two-RBI single by Makayla Garcia and two-RBI double by Spencer highlight the inning. Hutch got a run back in the fourth and then tied the game in the top of the sixth making it 7-7 entering the seventh inning. In the top of the seventh Hutchinson used the home run ball to take the lead and scored three and would ultimately grab the 10-7 win.
