Softball Uses Big Offensive Performance to Sweep of Pratt

Dodge City softball team put on an offensive show on the road on Sunday as they routed Pratt in a pair of KJCCC victories 24-3 and 17-3 both in five innings. 

The wins move the Conquistadors to 10-14 on the season and 6-6 in Conference play, while making it 18-straight wins in the series with the Beavers of Pratt. 

Up next the Conqs will take on Barton on Monday, March 28th in Great Bend for a doubleheader slated for a 1:00 pm start time. 

Game 1 – Won 24-3 at Pratt (5 innings)
The Conqs got the bats rolling early to open the day on the road against Pratt scoring 24 runs on 21 hits in game one to earn the 24-3 five-inning victory. In the top of the first inning, the Conqs opened the game with six-straight hits scoring four runs in that sequence, and added another before the inning was over to make it 5-0. Pratt snagged a run in the second inning, but the Conqs answered by putting up a nine-spot in the top of the third as Jennifer Katz had a pair of two-run homers in the inning and Ollievia Lowe and Riley Haney each had two RBI doubles in the inning to highlight the frame. In the fourth, the Conqs added three more runs and then had another outburst of scoring with seven in the fifth ultimately leading to the 24-3 victory. 

The Conqs would out-hit Pratt 21-5 in the contest with 13 different players registering a hit and 14 different players scoring a run in the win. Lowe and Katz led the offensive attack for the Conqs in the contest as Lowe was 3-3 with three doubles, four RBI, three runs scored, a walk, and two stolen bases; Katz finished 2-4 with two home runs, four RBI, three runs scored, and a walk. Haney went 2-3 with two RBI, a run scored, and a double, while Hadlee Richardson added a 2-2 showing with two runs scored, an RBI, a walk, and stolen base. Stephanie Torres, Melanie Castro, and Destiny Saldivar each also had a two-hit game. 

On the mound, Alexis Holman was great tossing all five innings for the win giving up just three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out 10 and doing all that on just 93 pitches. 

Game 2 – Won 17-3 at Pratt (5 innings)
It was early scoring again for the Conqs in the second game against Pratt as Lowe belted a two-run homer in the top of the first then AJ Poell tattooed a solo home run in the top of the second and the Conqs added another run to make it 4-0. In the third Poell connected on her second home run this time a three-run shot that scored Makayla Garcia and Haney growing the Conqs lead to 7-0. The game broke open in the top of the fourth when the Conqs tallied 10 runs, scoring seven before an out was recorded in the inning. Castro led the fourth off with a solo home run for the Conqs, Haney notched a two-RBI double, and Addison Spencer followed that with an RBI single, while Katz hit her third home run of the day in the inning this one being a three-run shot. Pratt managed to tally three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Conqs finished out the game in the fifth earning the 17-3 win. 

The offense was spread out again for the Conqs as Poell went 3-3 with two home runs, four RBI, three runs scored, while Katz was 2-3 with three RBI, a home run, stolen base, and run scored. Garcia added a multi-hit game finishing 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while six other Conqs had a hit. 

Danika Utajara earned the win in the circle tossing all five innings giving up just three runs on seven hits, a walk, and a hit batter while striking out three.
