Back on the road again on Monday for the Doge City softball team as they traveled to Great Bend for a KJCCC doubleheader with Barton. The Conquistadors battled in a pair of low-scoring affairs but came out on the wrong side falling 5-2 and 1-0.
The losses send the Conqs to 10-16 on the season and 6-8 in conference play. Up next the Conqs are scheduled to travel to Northwest Kansas Tech on Wednesday, March 30th for a doubleheader.
Game 1 – at Barton Lost 5-2
The Conqs struck first on the day as they worked the bases loaded in the top of the first behind a single from
Ollievia Lowe, a walk by
Makayla Garcia, and then a single by
Riley Haney, and then scored a run on an RBI groundout by
Hadlee Richardson. Barton answered with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1 and then the Cougars of Barton scored two in the second and one in the third to lead 4-1. In the fourth, the Conqs were back on the board as Haney blasted a solo home run, but Barton tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth and went on to take the game 5-2.
In the loss,
Raemie Lopp was solid in the circle tossing all six innings giving up five runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out six. Offensively Haney paced the Conqs going 2-2 with a home run, run scored, and RBI.
Jennifer Katz, Richardson,
Stephanie Torres, and Lowe each also had a hit.
Game 2 – at Barton Lost 1-0
The second game of the day was a pitching duel and despite surrendering only three hits the Cougars the Conqs would be unable to score and fall 1-0. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Barton notched a home run to account for the contest's only run. The Conqs would work a few base runners in the contest but ultimately be stymied by the Cougars' pitching and fall 1-0.
K'Lee Flores was spectacular inside the circle for the Conqs in the loss as she gave up just one run on three hits and no walks while striking out four. Offensively the Conqs had just five hits as
Melanie Castro was 2-3 with a double and walk, while Haney was 1-3 with a double.
AJ Poell and Richardson each added a hit.
