Dodge City men's basketball made it two straight wins on the road against top-tier competition as they came from behind to claim an 83-77 win over the Butler Grizzlies on Saturday.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 20-4 on the season and 15-3 in KJCCC action, while also handing Butler their first loss at home this season.
Conqs fell behind early and worked to an 11-11 tie, but Butler countered with a 9-0 to gain control and the Grizzlies would control most of the first half even going up double figures. JTHe Conqs would put together a 12-3 run over the final six minutes of the first half and tie the game up at 36-36 heading into halftime. The second half would be tight throughout and the Conqs snagged the lead at 65-62 with 7:15 remaining after a
BJ Freeman three-pointer. In the final two minutes of action, the Conqs would hold multiple six-point leads but led just 79-77 with twenty seconds remaining and the Conqs would secure the game on
Themus Fulks two free-throws and a
Kalen Williams dunk to the exclamation point to win 83-77.
For the tenth time, this season the Conqs shot 50+% from the floor as a team shooting 57.4% and went 16-20 from the free-throw line while matching a season-best with 22 assists.
Fulks put his fingerprints all over the game to help pace the Conqs scoring 25 points on 8-13 shooting and went 8-9 from the charity stripe while adding a career-high nine rebounds and dished out seven assists.
Nick Pringle finished with 12 points on 5-6 shooting and grabbed five rebounds, while
Oumar Koureissi scored 12 points on 5-10 shooting. Freeman added 11 points off the bench for the Conqs.
Another top-notch opponent looms for the Conqs next as #13 Hutchinson comes to Dodge City on Wednesday, February 9th, and then the Conqs are set to host Cloud County on Saturday, February 12th.
