Men's Basketball Claims Top 20 Road Win Versus Garden City

Thursday night didn't disappoint in the rivalry between Dodge City and Garden City as the #8 Conquistador men's basketball team traveled to Garden City and took down the #18 Broncbusters in a top-flight KJCCC battle, winning 103-96. 

The win moves the Conqs to 19-4 on the season and 14-3 in Jayhawk Conference action, while also making it three wins in a row against the Broncbusters. The victory also ends the Broncbusters nine-game win streak as they had not lost since returning from the holiday break. 

Over the first three and half minutes, the Conqs worked to an early 10-4 advantage on the road and would go up double figures at 29-19 on a Jordan Love three-pointer with 9:11 left in the first half. The lead grew to as high as 12 and headed into half the Conqs behind 72.4% shooting in the first half led 54-45 over Garden City. The second half saw Garden City come out of the gate strong on a 6-0 run that turned into a 12-3 run over the first four minutes of the second half to tie the game up at 57-57. Conqs would push back and by the 5:43 mark, the lead was back to double figures for Dodge City at 88-78. The lead would remain squarely in the back pocket of the Conqs the rest of the contest to the 103-96 victory. 

Conqs finished the game shooting 60.3% as a team marking the ninth time this season the team has shot 50+% in a game and finished 5-8 from three-point range along with 22-31 from the charity stripe. 

Six guys finished with double figures on the night for the Conqs led by Themus Fulks who was 11-15 from the floor for 24 points and add three rebounds and four assists. Kalen Williams tallied 18 points on 7-14 shooting and had five rebounds and four assists. Oumar Koureissi chipped in 16 points on 7-10 shooting, while Kerwin Prince added 10 points in his first start of the season. Nick Pringle had a monster double-double finishing with 15 points on 6-9 shooting and snatched 16 rebounds. 

The tough stretch continues for the Conqs with their next contest on the road once more as they travel to El Dorado to take on Butler on Saturday, February 6th at 4:00 pm.
