Richard Dorceus Joins Conquistador Football Coaching Staff as Offensive Coordinator

February 03, 2022

Dodge City football program continues to move forward and new Head Coach, Terry Karg has his Offensive Coordinator in place for the Conquistadors as Richard Dorceus comes over from Monroe College where he coached under Coach Karg for the past three years to now be on staff at Dodge City.

"I'm excited to join the Conquistador community and share my passion for coaching and the game. I look forward to supporting our student-athletes to gain their confidence both on and off the field. I want to make a positive impact on my players, letting them know that I care about their well-being and want to see them grow as athletes and individuals," said Dorceus about what he looks forward to with the opportunity to coach at Dodge City.

Dorceus spent the last three seasons at Monroe College where he was the run game coordinator and offensive line coach. Last year he helped the Mustangs of Monroe finish 10-1 and #6 in the country, getting to as high as #5 in the polls during the season, and the team played in the Graphic Edge Bowl. Offensively the Mustangs averaged 38.4 points per game (ninth in NJCAA DI) along with 353.5 yards per game (20th in NJCAA DI – 202.7 ypg passing & 150.7 ypg rushing) and the team ranked eighth and ninth in NJCAA DI in passing and rushing touchdowns, respectively. In his first season at Monroe, 2019, he helped Monroe lead the nation in points per game at 49.8 and rank second in the nation in rushing touchdowns with 39.

Before coaching at Monroe, he started his coaching career in 2011 coaching defensive line at Hayfield Secondary in Alexandria, Virginia, and had his defensive line set several school records. In 2015 he was named the offensive line coach at Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville, Maryland where he coached several All-State offensive linemen guiding them to football scholarships.

Coach Dorceus felt the opportunity to continue to coach under and with Coach Karg was an opportunity he wanted to take advantage of. "Coach Karg is an excellent coach and mentor. We share similar core values on commitment, teamwork, and cooperation, which set high standards and expectations of our players and ourselves. He treats everyone with respect and listens to all concerns. I hold myself to the same expectation, which shows our players and community that I am equally committed. Also, when it comes to the X's and O's, Coach Karg is one of the best in the business, so I'm excited to be a part of his staff to continue my growth," said Dorceus.

The Florida native also brings playing experience to the table to go along with his coaching experience. He played college football at Howard University where he earned his bachelor's degree in journalism and played offensive line and started as a true freshman. He racked up several postseason honors including Howard Offensive Lineman of the Year twice, MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week four times, and second-team All-MEAC in 2005, while he also served as a team captain two seasons. Dorceus also earned his master's degree in human development and special education from George Washington University.

Coach Karg is thrilled to bring Coach Dorceus with him from Monroe to be a part of his staff at Dodge City. "Coach Dorceus will be a tremendous asset to our coaching staff and players here at Dodge City. He does a great job of developing every player on the offensive line, both athletically and fundamentally, while also creating a high level of group unity, cohesion, and loyalty. He has strong communication skills and an ability to develop relationships with all players in the program, on both sides of the ball. This will enable coach Dorceus to be a valuable mentor to the players in our football program," said Karg.
