Dodge City women's basketball team made it seven of the last nine in the series with Colby in the win column as the Conquistadors tallied the most points in a conference game this season by routing Colby 90-68.
The win moves the Conqs to 16-11 on the season and 11-10 in KJCCC action with only four games remaining in the regular season.
Conqs jumped out to an 8-0 start to the game and after Colby scored the next four points the Conqs answered with a 9-0 run and tallied 29 points in the first quarter to control the game early up 29-13 after the first frame. The lead expanded in the second stanza for the Conqs as they outscored Colby 21-12 in the second and would shoot 71.4% from the floor in the first half to carry a 50-25 lead into halftime. To open the second half the Conqs struggled to score after the hot shooting in the first half going the first four and half minutes of the second half before getting a field goal. By the end of the third quarter, Colby had pushed back closer with a 26-17 quarter but the Conqs finished the contest strong to take the game 90-68.
Offensively the Conqs shot 53.3% as a team and had 23 assists on 32 made field goals, while also netting 12 three-pointers. The double-digit three-pointers made in the contest is the seventh time this season the Conqs have accomplished that feat (fourth time in last seven games). Colby shot just 36.7% from the floor in the contest.
Bree Stephens tallied 21 points in 7-11 shooting including 4-6 from three-point range while adding seven rebounds, three assists, and six steals.
Jenna Rose Mafua scored 16 points and had five rebounds and six assists.
Jada Burton chipped in 10 points and had eight assists.
The Conqs are back in action for sophomore day on Saturday, February 19th at 1:00 pm against Pratt and then will host Independence on Sunday, February 20th at 2:00 pm.
