The Dodge City men's basketball team with a win at home on Wednesday clinched the KJCCC title outright and will finish Conference play with at least one win over every team in the Conference after a 94-81 win over Colby. The loss avenges an earlier season loss to the Trojans on the road.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 24-4 on the season and 19-3 in KJCCC action with only two games remaining in the regular season.
The Conqs fell behind early in trailed Colby up until just under 15:30 left in the first half when the Conqs took their first lead at 9-8 and would never give it back as a 9-0 run would make it 16-8. The lead would continually grow in the first half behind the hot shooting of 64.7% for the Conqs that carried them to a 50-32 advantage at halftime against the Trojans of Colby. The Conqs would get contributions from all around in the second half as six different players hit a three-pointer in the game and nine different guys scored of the 10 that played and the Conqs secured the 94-81 win.
In the win, the Conqs finished the game shooting 60%, as they shot 50+% from the field in a game as a team for the 13th time this season including six of the last seven games (have shot 60+% in three games this season).
Oumar Koureissi and
Themus Fulks each posted 18 points to lead the Conqs on the night. Fulks added eight assists and four steals to his night.
Kerwin Prince was strong off the bench again finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds, while
Keandre Bowles tallied 15 points.
Nick Pringle despite foul trouble finished with 10 points.
The Conqs will have sophomore day on Saturday, February 19th at home as they host Pratt at 3:00 pm (following the women's game).
