The Dodge City softball team continues to be road warriors to open the 2022 season as they opened their second trip to Texas with a doubleheader on Tuesday against #14 Howard.
The Conqs faced off with the Hawks of Howard and suffered a 9-0 loss in five innings in game one and fell 12-4 in game two; the Conqs moved to a 2-6 record on the season.
Up next the Conqs continue action in Texas as they take on Western Texas in a doubleheader on Wednesday, February 16th.
Game 1 – 9-0 Loss at Howard (5 innings)
The Conqs struggled to get going in game one as Howard took the early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second, two in the third, and three more in the fifth to end the game in five innings at 9-0.
Conqs managed just three hits in the contest as
Makayla Garcia,
Riley Haney, and
Stephanie Torres each recorded a hit.
Raemie Lopp started in the circle tossing three innings giving up six runs but only one earned on seven hits and a walk while striking out two.
Game 2 – 12-4 Loss at Howard (6 innings)
Conqs fell behind early in game two of the doubleheader as Howard plated a run in the bottom of the first and then extended their lead with a five-run third inning. In the top of the fourth, the Conqs got their first run of the day as Haney blasted a solo home run and then in the top of the fifth, an RBI single by Haney got another run for the Conqs. In the top of the sixth back-to-back RBI singles by
Kalei Villegas and
Addison Spencer got the Conqs two more runs but Howard tallied a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth, and three in the sixth ending the game at 12-4.
Offensively the Conqs registered 12 hits in the loss led by Spencer who was 3-4 with a run scored, RBI, and double. Haney went 2-3 with a run scored, home run, and two RBI.
Ollievia Lowe went 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and double.
