Softball Wraps Up Texas Road Trip With Doubleheader Versus Western Texas

Dodge City softball wrapped up their second trip to Texas for non-conference playing a doubleheader against Western Texas suffering 7-3 and 8-0 losses.

The Conqs now sit at 2-8 on the season and now look to prepare for the first home action of the season.

Conqs will have their first home contests on Saturday, February 26th against Northwest Kansas Tech for the first Conference play of the season. The originally scheduled doubleheader with North Platte scheduled for February 25th has been postponed and will be rescheduled for another date.

Game 1 – Lost 7-3 at Western Texas

Conqs fell behind early in game one of the doubleheader at Western Texas and struggled to get going offensively in the contest. Western Texas tallied two runs in the first and second innings each, while then scoring one run in the third, fifth, sixth innings. In the top of the sixth, the Conqs got back into the game plating their three runs as Addison Spencer had an RBI double and Makayla Garcia had a two-RBI double, but Western Texas ended the Conqs come back there as the game finished 7-3.

In the loss, Spencer was 1-3 with an RBI, run scored, and double while Garcia went 1-3 with two RBI and a double. AJ Poell, Hadlee Richardson, and Riley Haney each recorded a hit, also. Danika Utajara got the start, while K'lee Flores and Raemie Lopp tossed two and one innings of relief respectively. Flores gave up just one run in two innings on two hits, a walk, and hit batter, and struck out one.

Game 2 – Lost 8-0 at Western Texas (6 innings)

Like game one of the doubleheader, Western Texas struck first as they plated a run in the second and then added four in the third and two more in the fourth against the Conqs. The Conqs were unable to muster much offense and saw Western Texas tally another run in the bottom of the sixth to finish the game at 8-0 in six innings.

Destiny Saldivar, Spencer, and Poell each had a hit in the contest, while Alicyn O'Neill started in the circle for the Conqs. Alexis Holman and Saldivar both also pitched in the contest.
