Dodge City men's basketball made it three in a row against Cloud County as they battled from behind to get a game-winning shot in the final seconds of the game by
Themus Fulks to secure a 73-71 win.
The victory moves the Conquistadors to 21-4 on the season and 17-3 in Jayhawk Conference play.
The Conqs got out to a solid start working to a 9-2 advantage and would hold the lead until the 6:21 mark of the first half and Cloud County would take the lead into halftime 40-35. Early in the second half, the Conqs kept it close, but Cloud County continued to hold the lead and would push the lead to 10-points at 53-43 with 12:30 left in the contest. The lead flipped back to the Conqs on a Fulks three-pointer with just over eight minutes left in-game and the advantage in the Conqs favor of the game would be tied multiple times down the stretch. A pair of
Kalen Williams free throws would make it 71-69 with just under a minute left but Cloud countered to tie the game up at 71-71 with just under eight seconds left. After a timeout, the Conqs had the inbound and Fulks drove to the basket as the clock wound down and would hit the game-winning layup to give the Conqs a 73-71 win.
In the win, the Conqs shot 50% from the floor and had just 10 turnovers, while Cloud County shot 54% in the contest.
Nick Pringle continued his dominant stretch posting a career-high 20 points on 8-8 shooting and grabbing nine rebounds. Fulks chipped in 11 points including the game-winner, while
Oumar Koureissi scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Four games remain in the regular season for the Conqs as they will be in action again on Monday, February 14th when they travel to take on Independence.
