Women's Basketball Falls in Tight Battle with #25 Hutchinson

Dodge City women's basketball faced off with #25 Hutchinson on Wednesday night and gave the Blue Dragons a battle but fell 76-73 in the contest. 

The loss drops the Conquistadors to 14-10 on the season and 9-9 in the Jayhawk Conference. 

It was a tight battle early as the Conqs kept the game tight throughout the first quarter and trailed just 19-16 after one-quarter of play. Hutchinson put together a run in the second quarter and extended their lead to double figures and the Conqs found themselves behind 36-26 at halftime. The Conqs surged back in the third quarter and tie the game up at 45-45 on a Krystina Hagood three-pointer with one minute remaining in the quarter and trailed only by two points entering the fourth quarter. The fourth featured increased scoring and was back and forth and Hutchinson would secure the win late after the Conqs were unable to tie the game in the final minute leading to the 76-73 final. 

In the loss, the Conqs shot 45.6% from the floor and went 11-14 from the free-throw line. 

Jada Burton paced the Conqs with 16 points and added eight rebounds and eight assists, while Bree Stephens finished with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Off the bench, Teona Pop Stojanova had a career-best game shooting 4-6 and 4-5 from the free-throw line to finish with a career-high 12 points and had a career-high six rebounds. Hagood and Destinee Paulk each scored 10 points; Hagood added six rebounds.
