Dodge City women's basketball picked up their fifth straight win and 11-straight at home on Monday beating Cloud County 84-69.
The Conquistadors with the win moved to 12-2 on the season and 7-1 in KJCCC action and head into the holiday break in sole possession of first place in the Jayhawk Conference.
The Conqs jumped on top early behind a
Bree Stephens three-pointer and while the contest was tight for the first six minutes the Conqs would end the first quarter outscoring Cloud County 10-5 to lead 27-17. The lead would continue to grow in the second stanza as the Conqs headed into halftime up 46-29 holding the Thunderbirds to just 28.9% shooting in the first half. Conqs would continue to control the contest in the third quarter and expand their lead putting together spurts to grow the lead with a 27-15 third quarter. While Cloud County would outscore the Conqs in the fourth quarter the Conqs large lead proved too much for the Thunderbirds as the Conqs won 84-69.
Conqs shot 45.2% from the floor including a season-high 14 three-pointers while holding Cloud County to 33.3% shooting in the contest. Rebounding battle was one by the Conqs 42-35 and the Conqs tallied 19 assists on 28 made field goals.
Jenna Rose Mafua finished with 18 points on 4-7 shooting all three-pointers and went 6-6 from the free throw line.
Leah Mafua chipped in 15 points and added eight rebounds and three steals, while Stephens finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Shakara Anderson tallied nine points and six rebounds, while
Jada Burton filled the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds, and seven assists.
Conqs head into the holiday break in sole possession of first place in the Jayhawk Conference and will be back in action on Wednesday, January 4
th at Independence at 5:30 pm.
