Dodge City men's basketball picked up their first win of the season as they took the floor at home for the first time this season and battled with McCook to claim a 68-57 win.
The Conquistadors withstood a late surge from McCook that drew them within five with just over three minutes left and closed the game out to secure the double-figure win and move to 1-1 on the season. The win marks the 18
th straight at home in the Dome and the eighth win all-time against McCook in program history.
The first half would feature a slow start to the contest for both teams and a contest that saw each team hold slim advantages but late in the first half the Conqs would push head by a wider margin outscoring McCook 14-2 over the final four minutes of the first half. The Conqs would carry a 37-22 lead into halftime at home over the Indians of McCook. In the second half Conqs would hold as high of a lead as 17 but the Indians made a surge and with just over three minutes left in the contest McCook trailing only 59-54. The Conqs solidify the game in their favor finishing the game outscoring McCook 9-3 over the final three minutes to grab the 68-57 win.
In the win the Conqs shot 40% from the floor while McCook shot 34.3%; both teams were hurt by turnovers with the Conqs having 20 and McCook recording 24.
Four Conqs tallied double figures on the night with 15 points by Jason Edwards leading the way as he was 6-12 shooting. Jacobi Sebock added 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Cam Malray chipped in 11 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Chris Robinson added double figures with 10 points and grabbed five rebounds, dished out five assists, and nabbed three steals.
Conqs hit the road and head to Colorado this weekend to continue their season as they will participate in the Trinidad State Classic. The Conqs will take on Trinidad State and Otero on Friday, November 11
th and Saturday, November 12
th, respectively.
