Men's Basketball Takes Down Otero at Trinidad State Classic

Dodge City men's basketball made it three wins in a row and a 2-0 trip to Colorado as they took down Otero on Saturday at the Trinidad State Classic, winning 83-69. 

The Conquistadors with the win improved to 3-1 on the season with three of the first four games of the year on the road or neutral site contests. 

Conqs jumped up 8-4 early but Otero hung tough and would tie the contest multiple times over the first 10 minutes of action in the first half. Otero Rattlers even briefly swung the lead their way but the Conqs over the final 4:30 minutes of the first half would outscore the Rattlers 14-2 including a 6-0 run to finish the first half leading to a 37-25 lead at halftime. The lead would grow in the second half making its way to 16 points on a Jason Edwards three-pointer with 14:29 left in the contest and then go up by over 20 points with just over 12 minutes remaining. Conqs would cruise to the win over Otero earning the 83-69 victory. 

In the win, the Conqs shot 46.2% from the floor and won the rebounding battle 46-29, while forcing 27 Otero turnovers and holding the Rattlers to 34.5% shooting. Conqs also went 21-29 from the free throw line in the win. 

Five players in double figures led the Conqs in the action as Cam Malray tallied 13 points and five rebounds, while DJ Jones added 13 points with six rebounds and was 5-5 from the free throw line. Jason Edwards chipped in 12 points on 5-7 shooting, while Tuscan Onuoha had 10 points and five rebounds and Jalan Davis finished with 10 points on 3-6 shooting and 4-4 from the charity stripe. Overall, 13 different Conqs scored at least one point in the win. 

The Conqs hit the road again on Tuesday, November 15th as they take on McCook in Nebraska for the return trip against the Indians in the home-and-home series with a 7:00 pm tipoff.
