Dodge City volleyball ended another long losing streak to another KJCCC opponent with a four-set win over Barton on Wednesday.
The Conquistadors topped the Cougars of Barton for the first time since 2016 with a 3-1 win 25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21 snapping a 12-match losing streak to Barton. The win moves the Conqs to 16-6 on the season and 5-4 in KJCCC play; the 16 wins match last year's win total. The Conqs victory is also the 40th in the coaching career of
Jordan Bruere.
After Barton took an early lead in the first set going up 5-3 the Conqs would push back and throughout the middle of the set, the contest would be tied several times with the Conqs establishing control at 18-15 and going on to secure the first set 25-20. Set two was again a see-saw affair with both teams owning leads early and the contest being tied multiple times and Barton made a late push to snag the second set 25-23 to even the match. The third set was nearly a mirror image of the first two with it being tight most of the set until the Conqs established a 20-17 lead and went on a 5-2 run from that point to cap the set 25-19. In the fourth set back-to-back aces by
Nur Yaren Turkmenoglu got the Conqs the early 2-0 lead and that lead grew to 17-10 but Barton made a late push to get closer only to see the Conqs finish the match with a 25-21 fourth set.
Oliwia Durka led the Conqs with 18 kills matching her career-high, while
Martyna Kmuk added 15 kills and nine digs. Turkmenoglu recorded 47 assists, adding four aces, two kills, and 12 digs while both
Alannah Lozoya and
Jatnna Pena each registered double-figure digs with 13 and 19, respectively.
Katelyn Kennedy posted a career-high eight digs and added an ace on the night.
Conqs continue their stretch of home games with another contest at home as they will host Pratt on Monday, October 10th at 6:30 pm; it will be DIG Pink night.
