Football Falls to #15 Iowa Central on the Road

Dodge City football hit the road for just the third time this season making the long trek to Fort Dodge, Iowa to face #15 Iowa Central marking the third time this season the Conquistador faced a ranked opponent.

While the Conqs were tight with Iowa Central after one quarter the Conqs ultimately fell 49-22 on the road to move to 3-5 on the season.

On the opening drive, the Conqs saw Iowa Central work into the redzone but the Conqs made a fourth down stand to turn the Tritons over on downs and keep them off the board. However Iowa Central would be the first to find the endzone hitting a big pass play for a touchdown, the Conqs countered as they mounted a drive and capped it with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Grant Ciccarone to Jalen Rose Hannah and it was 7-6 after the Conqs came up empty on a two-point conversion try. The first quarter ended with the Conqs trailing by just one but on the first play of the second quarter, Iowa Central got on the board and would score two more times in the second quarter, also. The Conqs worked a drive that produced a 42-yard field goal by Dylan Seeker and the Conqs trailed 28-9 at halftime.

In the second half, Iowa Central put up three more touchdowns in the third quarter, while the Conqs did get another touchdown pass from Ciccarone to Hannah. Trying to spark something in the fourth quarter the Conq defense forced a punt from the endzone by Iowa Central and Jaxson Gebhardt fielded the ball at the 30-yard line off a bounce and took it back to the endzone for the Conqs final score of the day making it 49-22 which ultimately was the final score.

In the loss, the Conqs saw Iowa Central tally 642 yards of total offense while they totaled 229 yards.

Ciccarone finished 21-33 for 205 yards with two touchdowns, while seven players caught at least one pass on the day. Hannah snagged seven catches for 50 yards with two touchdowns, while LaDamien Starks grabbed four passes for 54 yards. On defense, Adrian Hardy finished with eight tackles and an interception, while Jakerrias Scott and Malkolm Wright each had eight tackles.

The Conqs now head into a bye week before hitting the road again to take on #6 Butler in El Dorado on November 5th and then will wrap up the season on November 12th at home against Independence.
