Football Unable Keep Up With Butler in Road Conference Loss

Dodge City football played their fourth game against a ranked opponent as they took on #13 Butler coming off their second bye week.

The Conquistadors would struggle offensively and keeping the game close through the first half would fall 30-3 on the road to Butler moving to 3-6 on the season.

After the first five drives combined in the contest resulted in punts, it was the third drive of the game for Butler that saw the first points of the contest recorded as the Grizzles took a 3-0 lead on a 23-yard field goal late in the first quarter. The Conqs would hit a big 55-yard pass from Grant Ciccarone to Kam'Ryn Thomas and ultimately set up a field goal try. The field goal was initially blocked by Butler, but offsetting penalties negated the play and the Conqs got another attempt as Dylan Seeker booted a 19-yard field to tie the game at 3-3. Butler would get another field goal and the first touchdown of the game before halftime and lead 16-3 at intermission. In the second half, the Conqs struggled to move the ball with no offensive drive going more than seven plays and Butler found the endzone two more times to lead them past the Conqs 30-3.

In the loss, the Conqs were outgained 455 to 194 total yards and three turnovers they were unable to overcome. Ciccarone finished 13-29 for 146 yards, while Thomas led the receiving core with one catch for 55-yards and Jalen Smith had 11 carries for 49 yards. On defense, Dav'Juan Dezeme tallied 12 tackles, while Jakerrias Scott registered 11 tackles with half a sack. Jonethan Wiltshire added an eight-tackle game, while Alexandre Dedieu had a sack and Tymere Jackson had half a sack.

Conqs will wrap up the season at home against Independence at 1:00 pm at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City on Saturday, November 12th.
