Dodge City women's soccer picked up a big KJCCC win topping Johnson County by scoring four goals in a contest for the first time since May 15th, 2021.
The win pushes the Conquistadors to 3-8-1 on the season and 2-8 in KJCCC action, while marking only the second win over the Cavaliers in program history.
The Conqs would see Johnson County control the possession and pace in the first half outshooting them 7-2 in the half, but the game remained scoreless until the 34:55 mark of the first half. The Conqs earned a free kick just outside of the box on the far side and
Yui Fujii sent it towards the goal to record the first goal of the game making it 1-0.
In the second half, it remained 1-0 until the Conqs would spray in three goals in three minutes to take a stranglehold on the game. The Conqs would earn a penalty kick in the 75th minute and after a save by Johnson County Fujii swooped in for a rebound shot for her second goal. Nearly two minutes later
Sian Cha made it 3-0 Conqs pushing it in off a corner kick, and then Cha got her second goal of the day on a rebound header after a free kick from
Maria Scopino.
Conqs would be outshot 13-11 in the matchup but had seven shots on goal compared to just three for the Cavaliers. Scopino and
Femke Wiedeman each tallied an assist in the win, while
Joelle Brand recorded a pair of saves earning the win.
Conqs will be back in action against Garden City on Wednesday, October 19th and then wrap up the regular season with a clash with Cowley on Wednesday, October 26th.
