Men's Soccer Loses a Heartbreaker Against Johnson County in Overtime

Dodge City men's soccer team faced off with another ranked KJCCC team to continue their season on Sunday and were locked in a battle with #11 Johnson County ultimately falling 3-2 in overtime.

The loss sends the Conquistadors to 9-6 on the season and 3-5 in KJCCC action as the Conqs saw a penalty kick in the final seconds of overtime by Johnson County to make it a 3-2 final score.

Both teams didn't get much going in the first half as nearly 33 minutes went by before the first goal of the game which came from Johnson County and then eight minutes later just four minutes before halftime the Cavaliers made it 2-0. Trailing at halftime the Conqs picked up the pace in the second half and cut the lead in half in the 64th minute as Diego Marcelino Olivares connected on a goal and then in the 71st minute the Conqs tied the game with a Juan Ballesta goal. With five 5:26 remaining in the contest the Conqs would go a man down due to a red card but would hold serve and force overtime.

In overtime, both teams made a few runs but in the final seconds of overtime a penalty kick was awarded to Johnson County and the Cavaliers took advantage to net their third goal and claim the game 3-2.

The Conqs would outshoot Johnson County 25-9 in the contest but six of the nine shots for Johnson County were shots on goal. Marlon Lopez, Bastien Dechamps, and Janik Buch each recorded an assist in the loss.

Conqs will be back in action against Garden City on Wednesday, October 19th and then wrap up the regular season with a clash with Cowley on Wednesday, October 26th
