For the first time since early December, the Dodge City women's basketball team is on a winning streak after beating Colby on the road Monday night in a makeup game, claiming the 78-68 victory.
The win moved the Conquistadors to 13-8 on the season and back to over .500 in KJCCC play at 8-7. The victory also marks the third in the last four meetings against the Trojans of Colby.
By the end of the first quarter, the Conqs led 22-16 after the first quarter and by halftime, the Conqs were up 42-30. In the second half, the Conqs grew the lead but would see the Trojans push back late in the contest. The fourth quarter would feature a combined 45 points and Colby would cut into the Conqs lead getting as close as five points, but the Conqs would secure the win fending off the Trojans for the 78-68 victory.
Conqs offensively was efficient shooting 44.3% as a team and for the fourth time, this season hit double-digit three-pointers draining 12, while also going 12-14 from the free-throw line.
Bree Stephens paced the Conqs as she matched her career-high with 22 points on 7-10 shooting and went 3-4 from three and 5-6 from the charity stripe. Stephens added seven rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals.
Krystina Hagood chipped in 19 points on 7-12 shooting and 4-7 from three, also grabbing three rebounds and three steals.
Samantha Koeberer tallied 12 points on four three-pointers off the bench.
The Conqs continue to be road warriors as they are set for action again on Wednesday, February 2nd at Garden City at 5:30 pm, before hitting the court against Butler on the road on Saturday, February 5th.
