Dodge City women's basketball team got back in the win column on Saturday snapping a two-game losing streak with a 70-46 victory over Northwest Kansas Tech.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 12-8 on the season and 7-7 in Jayhawk Conference action.
Conqs raced out to an 11-2 lead to take control early against the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Tech and led 20-11 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams struggled to score early in the second quarter but by halftime, the Conqs led by 12 points at 33-21. Conqs continued to turn over the Mavericks in the second half and took advantage of those turnovers continuing to grow the lead and finishing the game behind a 20-12 fourth quarter to secure the 70-46 win.
The Conqs shot 49.1% from the floor while holding Northwest Kansas Tech to just 23.6% shooting which is the lowest by a Conference team this season against the Conqs. Conqs won the rebounding battle +7 while recording 14 assists and a team game-high nine blocks. Defensively the Conqs stymied the Mavericks' offense forcing 25 turnovers.
A trio of double-figure scorers led the Conqs on the night with
Jada Burton and
Bree Stephens leading the charge with 11 points each. Burton finished with seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals to go along with her 11 points, while Stephens added four rebounds and three blocks to her 11 points.
Georgia Gray tallied 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Blanche Mampuya chipped in nine points off the bench with five rebounds.
Krystina Hagood had her fingerprints all over the game finishing with eight points, while adding five rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks.
It's a quick turnaround for the ladies as they will be back in action on Monday, January 31st taking on Colby on the road in a makeup game at 5:30 pm.
