A strong second half carried the Dodge City men's basketball team to a convincing victory at home on Saturday over Northwest Kansas Tech 85-55.
The Conquistadors with the win improved to 18-4 on the season and 13-3 in conference play, while also remaining unbeaten at home at 11-0. The victory also marked the 100th win as a Head Coach for Conqs Head Coach,
Jake Williams in his coaching career (32 and counting at Dodge City).
Conqs jumped on the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Tech early with a 6-0 start to the game, but the Mavericks would keep things tight for the entirety of the first half. Late in the first half, the Mavericks managed to swing the lead to their side going up by two points multiple times including leading 34-32 with just over 20 seconds left in the half. The Conqs played for the final shot and would get a tip-in by
Oumar Koureissi to make it a 34-34 contest at halftime. In the second half, the Conqs would get contributions from several parties and worked to their first double-figure lead at 50-40 and didn't look back continuing to blossom the lead the rest of the second half going on to win by 30 points, 85-55.
The defense showed out for the Conqs again as it has many times this season holding the Mavericks to just 35% shooting and forcing 22 turnovers, while also winning the rebounding battle +19. Offensively the Conqs shot 51.5% from the field and finished with 20 assists.
Keandre Bowles paced the Conqs with 16 points off the bench on 7-12 shooting adding five rebounds, while
Themus Fulks added 13 points and Koureissi chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds.
Kalen Williams reached double figures with 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds, dished out five assists, and had three steals.
Kerwin Prince contributed eight points, while
Jonathan Breeland got his first start and scored six points and
Nick Pringle added six points and eight rebounds.
Next up the Conqs hit the road for a big Top 25 clash as they are set to take on #21 Garden City on Wednesday, February 2nd at 7:30 pm.
