For the fourth straight game, the Dodge City women's basketball team had a contest that finished with late possessions deciding the game and the Conquistadors saw Seward County steal the contest with a three-pointer with .8 seconds left in the contest for a 63-60 final.
The loss moves the Conqs to 11-8 on the season and 6-7 in Conference play.
Off and racing to open the game the Conqs worked to an 8-0 lead over the first four minutes; Seward County countered with a three-pointer and a free-throw to make it 8-4 but the Conqs then went on a 20-0 run that went into the second quarter. Off the 20-0 run, the Conqs owned want would be their largest lead of the night at 28-4. Behind the 21-4 first quarter the Conqs led 41-24 at halftime. In the second half, Seward County made a push but the Conqs still led by 15 entering the fourth quarter. That lead ultimately continued to dissipate and the game was tied at 60-60 late. The Conqs were unable to convert on a late opportunity leaving a last-second shot opportunity for Seward County and with .8 seconds the Saints drained a three-pointer for their first and only lead finishing the game at 63-60, as the Saints used a 24-6 fourth quarter to earn the win.
Conqs shot just 37.7% from the floor in the contest, while holding Seward County to just 26.8% shooting but the Saints drained 13 three-pointers. Twenty-three turnovers also plagued the Conqs in the game 16 coming in the game.
Jenna Rose Mafua led the Conqs in the loss with a career-high 19 points on 7-11 shooting including four three-pointers, while
Jada Burton tallied 12 points while adding six rebounds and three assists.
Krystina Hagood finished with seven points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
The Conqs will look to get back in the win column when they host Northwest Kansas Technical College on Saturday, January 29th at 1:00 pm.
