Men's Basketball Tops Barton at Home For 16th Win of the Season

Chalk up another W as the Dodge City men's basketball team continued to play well on Saturday as they earned a 94-77 win over Barton.

The win moves the Conquistadors to 16-2 on the season and 11-1 in KJCCC action, while the win marks the 30th for Head Coach, Jake Williams at Dodge City.

Down early the Conqs trailed the Cougars of Barton until the 15:21 mark of the first half when they went up 9-8. The Cougars needed a timeout with 14:38 left in the first half as the Conqs were on a 9-0 run to lead 14-8 and the lead grew to as many as nine points by halftime with the Conqs leading 47-38 at intermission. Early in the second half, the Conqs pushed the lead to double figures for the first time but with 12:09 left in the game, Barton had pulled to within six points. Barton would not get any closer than that as the Conqs continually got to the free-throw line and made the free opportunities and spread the offense around ballooning the lead to 20+ points on the way to a 94-77 win.

Conqs were efficient on offense shooting 45.3%, making nine three-pointers, and had a season-best performance at the free-throw line going 37-50 from the charity stripe. They added 16 assists on 24 made field goals and only had nine turnovers.

Oumar Koureissi had his best game as a Conq scoring a career-best 23 points for the game-high and added five rebounds. BJ Freeman finished with 19 points on 4-9 shooting and 8-8 from the free-throw line, while Keandre Bowles off the bench in just 18 minutes finished with 16 points on 5-6 shooting including 2-2 from three-point range, and went 4-4 from the free-throw line. Themus Fulks added a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists and went 10-13 from the line, while Kalen Williams returned and chipped in 11 points.

Conqs hit the road next Wednesday, January 19th to keep the season going as they travel to Arkansas City to take on Cowley at 7:30 pm.
