The Dodge City men's basketball team went on the road on Wednesday night and ground out a tight 86-81 win over Pratt for their 15th win of the season giving the Conquistadors their most wins in a season since 2016-17.
With the win, the Conqs improved to 15-2 on the season and moved to 10-1 in KJCCC action.
Pratt opened the game with a solid start the gave the Beavers the advantage on the scoreboard until just over 11 minutes left in the first half when the Conqs took their first lead of the game at 20-18. Conqs put together a 7-0 to grow their lead and then would have an 8-0 run to go up 41-28 but Pratt finished the first half on a 10-2 run of their own making it 43-38 at halftime with the Conqs leading.
Out of halftime Pratt put together an early push and took their first lead since the 11 and half minute mark in the first half and the Beavers worked the lead to a 64-58 advantage with 12:05 remaining in the game. That lead ultimately did not hold serve for the Beavers as the Conqs had an answer regaining the lead at 71-70 behind an 8-0 run and a pair of
Oumar Koureissi free throws gave the Conqs the lead back. Tight in the final minute of the contest, free throws by
Themus Fulks helped seal the game at 86-81 for Dodge City.
Offensively the Conqs shot 50.8% from the floor as a team and moved to 12-0 under Head Coach,
Jake Williams when shooting 50+% in a game. While defensively the Conqs held the Beavers to just 38.2% from the floor and won the rebounding battle by +12 on the night.
It was a career-high 30 points by Fulks who led the way for the Conqs as he finished the night on 10-13 shooting and 10-12 from the free-throw line while adding six assists and two rebounds.
BJ Freeman added an 18-point performance on the night going 8-16 from the floor and snagged six rebounds. While
Nick Pringle tallied his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds; Pringle has had double-figure rebounds in five of the last six games.
Oumar Koureissi chipped in 10 points and nabbed eight rebounds.
The season continues for the Conqs on Saturday, January 15th at home as they host Barton at 3:00 pm.
