Men's Basketball Gets Back In Win Column With Win Over Seward County

Dodge City men's basketball returned to the win column on Monday night in a rescheduled game against the Seward County Saints as the Conquistadors won 63-35.

It was the defense that propelled the Conqs to the victory at home and moved the Conqs to 14-2 on the season and 9-1 in KJCCC action.

Conqs pushed out to a 10-0 start to the game holding the Saints off the scoreboard for the first six-plus minutes of the game and the lead would remain firmly in the Conqs favor heading into halftime up 26-17. In the second half, Seward would draw within seven points at 33-26 with 14:33 remaining but the Conqs would push back and grow the lead to 20+ and won by nearly 30. Conqs would outscore Seward 37-18 in the second half to grab the 63-35 victory.

Defensively the Conqs had their best performance of the season by the numbers holding Seward to just 21.4% shooting, 9.4% shooting from three-point range, and just 35 points all of which are season lows by opponents for the Conqs. Conqs also dominated the boards outrebounding the Saints by 18 (47-29).

BJ Freeman led the Conqs in scoring for the third straight game tallying 16 points and was 6-6 from the charity stripe. Jordan Love in his second straight start tallied double figures again scoring 11 points going 3-4 from three-point range and added three steals. Themus Fulks added 10 points, six rebounds, and seven assists, while Jonathan Breeland off the bench had a strong night in 20+ minutes finished with nine points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Nick Pringle and Kerwin Prince were both monsters on the boards as they finished with 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively, while Oumar Koureissi posted eight points and seven rebounds.

Conqs hit the road on Wednesday, January 12th to continue the season as they will play Pratt at 7:30 pm.
