Conqs Falls in Straight Sets in Rematch with Colby

The Dodge City Conquistador volleyball program lost to the Colby Trojans last night by a score of 3-0.

Following up a five-set thriller in Dodge City on January 28^th, the two programs met in Colby, Kansas this time as the two teams began the second round of KJCCC play.

Despite losing in straight sets, the Conquistadors found themselves staying close each set losing 26-24, 25-23, and 25-20.

"Colby pressured us from the service line tonight," said head coach Jordan Bruere. "Serving and passing wins games and we struggled to be consistent in that aspect of our game tonight. That lead us to fewer offensive options. We know what we need to focus on the next two days to be prepare for our home games Thursday and Friday. We expect to see a different team competing this weekend."

The Conquistadors were led in kills by sophomore Ruby Osawey. Setter Nur Yaren Turkmenoglu had 19 assists but also chipped in five kills of her own. Filling in for the injured Bruna Torres, freshman Sydnee Connors stepped up to play libero and led the team with 22 digs.

Dodge City falls to 3-10 on the year, including 3-6 in KJCCC play. The Colby win moves them to 7-3 and 4-2 in KJCCC play while keeping them amongst a five-team group of contenders with two or less conference losses.

The Conqs are back in action on Thursday, March 4^th when they host the Lamar Runnin' Lopes in a nonconference match at the Student Activity Center. The match is set to begin at 6:00 pm CST. Doors open to fans at 5:30 pm and tickets can be bought here.
