Lady Conqs Volleyball Drops First Two Matches at Mid-Plains Invitational

When head coach Jordan Bruere signed her squad up for the Mid-Plains Invitational, she knew that no matter her draw, the Lady Conquistadors would be playing four talented programs.

The Lady Conqs from Dodge City played the first of those two matches on Friday, February 5^th, falling 3-1 to North Platte Community College and 3-0 to Casper College.

The first set of the day showed promise as the Lady Conquistadors took a 1-0 lead on North Platte after a thrilling 28-26 battle. While the Lady Conqs won the first battle, they had yet to win the war as the Lady Knights from North Platte would take three straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-19.

The Lady Conqs were led by freshman Hillary English's 14 kills, followed by sophomore and recent Prairie View A&M signee Ruby Osawey's 10 kills. Aneesa Thompson (5), Sina Toroslu (4), and English (3) each posted multiple blocks in the match.

In the second match of the day, the Lady Conquistadors made a push against Casper early but were ultimately overcome by the sharp play of the Lady T-Birds. The squad out of Casper, Wyoming attacked early and often in each of the three sets as they won 25-21, 25-18, and 25-10, respectively.

The Lady Conquistadors fall to 1-4 on the year and have lost four-straight since winning their first match of the season. They are back in action today, Saturday, February 6 against Southeast Community College at 8:00 am and the host school McCook Community College at 4:00 pm. The Lady Conquistadors were originally scheduled to play Otero Junior College at 10:00 am and Southeast Community College at 4:00 pm, but the Otero Junior College program wasn't able to make the trip to McCook, Nebraska.
