After a tough loss to open the Midland Classic in Texas on Thursday the Dodge City Community College women's basketball team bounced back on Friday afternoon with a 67-61 win over Western Texas. 

The Conquistadors held a 24-point lead at the end of the third quarter but struggled in the fourth quarter holding off Western Texas enough to improve to 3-1 on the season with the 67-61 victory. 

After a slow start to the game, the Conqs got rolling in the first quarter and drained five of their 11 three-pointers in the game posting a 20-8 first quarter taking firm control of the contest. Western Texas pushed back in the second but by halftime, it was a nearly even second quarter and the Conqs led 36-25 at intermission. Shots continued to fall for the Conqs in the third quarter as they posted 25 points in the frame outscoring Western Texas 25-12 to lead by 24-points entering the fourth quarter. Western Texas would do most of the scoring in the fourth quarter outscoring the Conqs 24-6 but the six points were just enough for the Conqs to hold on for the 67-61 win. 

Conqs shot 46.2% from the floor in the contest and overcame 20 turnovers in the matchup while forcing 18 turnovers and recording 11 steals. Jada Burton paced the Conqs with 14 points, adding four assists and two steals. Destinee Paulk came off the bench and tallied 12 points. Krystina Hagood added nine points and seven rebounds, while Jenna Rose Mafua scored nine points. 

The ladies will wrap up play at the Midland Classic in Texas on Saturday afternoon when they take on Ranger at 12:30 pm.
