(Hutchinson, KS) -- The Dodge City Community College Softball team has been playing well of late, but after getting swept in the doubleheader by Hutchinson Community College has now lost three games in a row.
Game one started promising for the Conquistadors, scoring two runs in the first on a single by
Lexy Perez, she would later score a run. The early lead wouldn't last, however, as Hutchinson would tie it in the bottom half. In the third
Samantha Montano knocked in another run, giving the Conqs a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately, the Conq bats would grind to a halt from that point. Hutch would score three in the fourth inning, two in the fifth inning, and add one in the sixth to gain the 11-3 lead.
The Conqs started quickly again in game two, scoring three runs in the first on a Perez double, and
Courtney Huff's second home run of the year, a two-run shot. This time the lead would last a bit longer as neither team would get on the scoreboard again, until Hutchinson tied it up in the fourth inning with three runs of their own. With the game tied 3-3, the Conqs would retake the lead 5-3 on a pair of singles, one by
Karissa Avila, and another by Huff. In the sixth Dodge City would expand the lead to 6-3 on a single by Montano. Hutchinson would score two in the fifth decreasing the Conq lead to 6-5. The two teams would go into the bottom of the seventh with the Conquistadors holding a chance to get the victory. Those hopes would be dashed with Hutchinson tying the game once again. The two teams would play two extra innings before Hutchinson would close the game out on a sacrifice fly to pull out the 7-6 victory.
