(Great Bend, KS) -- The Dodge City Community College offense exploded in game one to gain a 19-8 5-inning victory but were unable to sustain that production in game two, losing the second game 9-6.
The bats for Dodge City started early and continued through the first game. Unlike their last game against Barton, however, the majority of the damage was not done via the home run.
Caley Best,
Jessica Espinoza, and
Samantha Montano would all get base hits, along with the two-RBI double by
Ericka Calderon to score five and go up early in the second inning. A pair of doubles in the third by Espinoza and Montano would stake the Conqs out to an 8-0 lead before Garden City would score three in their half of the third. The Conqs would keep the pedal down and score five more in the fourth.
Alex Pacheco would score, then be followed by a pair of doubles from
Lexy Perez, and
Karissa Avila to give the Conqs a 13-3 lead. Garden City would again score three, attempting to get back in the game but the Conquistador offense would not allow that as they added six more runs in the fifth. Pacheco would start the scoring in the inning by hitting a triple. She would then be followed by a home run by Best. Perez doubled, and a pair of singles from Avila and
Courtney Huff closed the scoring, giving the Conqs a 19-6 lead before Garden City added two more in the bottom half of the fifth to close the game with Dodge City Community College victorious by a score of 19-8.
Game two was a completely different story, as neither team would score through the first three innings. It was Dodge City who would break the drought, scoring two runs on
Lexy Perez' 7
thhome run of the year in the fourth inning. The Conqs would take a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning with Espinoza scoring on an error. Garden City would finally break their seal, scoring six in the home half of the fifth. They would add three more in the sixth to take a 9-3 lead into the seventh. Dodge City would give their best effort to come back but the hill was too steep. They would score three in the seventh, to fall 9-6.
Lexy Perez continued her hot streak from last week, going 5-7 with five RBI's. In game one, Perez, Best, and Calderon would each have three RBI's.
Samantha Montano and
Karissa Avila added two RBI's each in the first game. Also in game one,
Jessica Espinoza went 3-5 with four RBI's and also picked up her fourth win of the season.
