(Goodland, KS) -- The Dodge City Community College offense had a great day, scoring twenty-seven runs in the two-game set against Northwest Kansas Tech.
The first game started well for the Conquistadors and turned out to be a predictor of how the day would go.
Samantha Montano singled in the first inning to give the Conqs their first run. In the second Dodge City would do much more damage, scoring five runs to take command of the game.
Courtney Huff scored on an error.
Jessica Espinoza singled, scoring two. Montano followed with a double that would score a run, then she would score on an error. Caley best singled in the third to expand the lead to 7-0. The Conquistador bats would not slow down, scoring four more runs in the fifth inning on four consecutive batters reaching base. Huff would start the scoring with a double,
Gianna Browdy followed her with a single. The next batter was
Alex Pacheco and she would hit a triple to score one, and then score on the next play via an error. Northwest Kansas would get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fifth but that would not prolong the game as Dodge City Community College secured the five innings, 11-2 victory.
In the second game, it would be more of the same as Dodge City's bats were on fire. Montano led off the scoring once again, hitting a single to score Espinoza.
Lexy Perez was the next batter and knocked in another run on a single. Two batters later, Huff would launch her fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot to give the Conqs a 4-0 lead after one inning. The scoring in the second inning started with
Caley Best scoring on a sacrifice fly, then Espinoza scored on an error. The Conqs would not be done there, however as Perez and Huff singled to score two more, giving the Conquistadors an 8-0 lead. Northwest Kansas got on the board scoring one run in the second, making the score 8-1. The Conqs were just getting started as they would add eight more runs in the third inning. Espinoza started it off, hitting her second home run of the year, a three-run homer.
Karissa Avila and
Gianna Browdy would each get run-scoring hits. Huff would score a run, and Best added a two-run home run, her third of the season to give the Conqs a 16-1 victory in game two.
