Conquistador Pitchers Struggle in Losses

(Liberal, KS) -- The Dodge City Community College pitching staff struggled mightily on a day in which they gave up twenty-nine runs to Seward County Community College. The bats were able to fight and keep up in game one before losing in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off 17-16 but they were beaten in five innings 12-1 in game two.

The scoring happened early and often in game one with the Conqs scoring two right off the bat on a fielder's choice, and a sacrifice fly in the first only to be answered by the Saints in the second. In the third Sophie Herrera would connect on a two-run home run, giving the Conquistadors a 4-2 lead. Seward would again answer immediately as they would score four runs in the bottom half of the inning. As would often in the game it went right back to the Conquistadors as they would answer with four of their own, two of which came on a home-run hit by Gianna Browdy. Seward would seemingly take control in the fifth inning, however as they would put up a seven spot to take a 13-8 lead. The Conqs would fight back yet again as they scored two in the sixth inning on a second two-run home-run by Gianna Browdy. Despite that, Dodge City would go in the top of the seventh trailing 14-10. The Conqs would score six to take the lead, keyed by a pair of doubles by Lexy Perez, and Courtney Huff. Unfortunately, it would still not be enough as a two-run home run would tie it, and Seward would walk off on a double in the bottom half to win 17-16.

The Conqs hit three home runs in game one, two by Browdy, and one by Herrera. Browdy contributed five RBI's on her two hits, Herrera knocked in three on her pair of hits. Huff had three runs batted in, while Perez and Alex Pacheco had two, and one RBI respectively.

Unfortunately for the Conquistadors, in game two the pitching did not improve much, and the bats went cold. Dodge City would score one run in the first, but that was all they would get as they were shut down by Allysah Pantojah of the Saints. She allowed five hits, and just one run in the five-inning 12-1 rout for Seward.

The lone RBI in game two came from who else, but Browdy.

Overall Browdy went 2-6 with six RBI's, Herrera had three hits, and three RBI's.
