Conq Baseball Bounces Back to Sweep Rangers in Oklahoma

(Alva, OK.) -- After a rough day on Sunday, the Conqs traveled to Alva, Oklahoma to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State University JV. The Conqs took out all of their frustration on the Rangers, and behind some fantastic pitching performances, DC3 swept the doubleheader, winning game one 6-3, and game two 9-0.

The Conqs were able to get going early in the first game by scoring two in the second inning and three in the third. The pitching was phenomenal when they really needed to be. Playing their fifth and sixth games in three days Coach Phil Stephenson went with a different approach, throwing five different pitchers in game one, only two throwing more than one inning. It wound up being a good strategy as they gave up just 3 earned runs in game one and helped to lead the Conqs to the 6-3 victory.

Noah Webb went 2-4, driving in two runs. Drake Angeron, Ryan Santos, and Conner Kessler had an RBI each. The five pitchers, Hayden Wilcox, Dylan Navarrette, Logan Angeron, Evan Nichols, and Joe Milano combined to give up just four hits, and three earned runs. Wilcox picked up the win and Milano shut the door to pick up the save.

Coach Stephenson followed the same strategy with the pitching staff in game two as he did in game one. This time six different pitchers threw, combining for a shutout. The pitching staff didn't need any help from the bats in this one, but they got it anyway as the offense delivered nine runs, spreading them throughout the game as the second inning is the only inning, they did not put up a crooked number.

Garrett McGowan delivered a good performance, hitting a home run and knocking in five runs. Carlos Vizcaya, Tyler Whalen, Alex Fietek, Jake Hewson, Noah Webb, and Conner Kessler combine to throw a shutout, giving up just four hits and walking one.

The Conquistadors will welcome Hutchinson Community College to Cavalier Field for a conference doubleheader on Thursday.
