(Dodge City, KS.) -- The Conqs couldn't get the bats going today, but due to a good pitching performance in game one, they were able to pull off the split winning the first game 5-4, and losing the second 12-3 against Hutchinson Community College.
The offense was able to get it going early in game one, scoring a run on a
Spencer Marcus double in the first inning. That 1-0 score would hold up until the fourth inning when Hutchinson would score three and take a 3-1 lead. The Blue Dragons would add another in the fifth, going to the bottom half up 4-1. The Conqs bats would respond with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to retake the lead, 5-4. Those runs came on a double by
Trey Vasquez, and a three-run homer by Marcus. Those five runs would all the Conqs pitching staff needed as they were able to hold on and pick up a 5-4 win.
Spencer Marcus went 2-3 with four RBI's, including the three-run home run.
Luke Boline pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four earned runs, three hits, walking four, and striking out four.
Joe Milano would close the door finishing out the last 1.1 innings, and not allowing a baserunner.
Conner Kessler got knocked around in the second game, going just two innings and getting tagged for five hits and six earned runs. He also walked four. The bullpen would proceed to pitch the remaining seven innings. They gave up seven hits and six earned runs.
Dylan Navarrette was responsible for three of the runs. The Conqs never got much going offensively scoring just three runs, one on an error and two on base hits from Marcus and
Logan Mackay.
Jake Bunz shut the Conqs down in game two, giving up just four hits, one earned run and striking out nine in his six innings.
The Conquistadors will travel to Hutchinson to take on the Blue Dragons on Friday.
