Game Recap: Baseball |

DC3 Baseball Wins 1 in Opening Weekend

(Borger, TX) – The Dodge City Community College Baseball team was able to take 1 game in their opening series of the season against Frank Phillips College. They were not able to get the bats going much until the third and final game of the series, which led to an 8-7 win.
In the first game, they were able to get out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with Garrett McGowan stealing home. Frank Phillips would answer immediately in the bottom half, however as they would score 2 runs, 1 on a wild pitch, and the other on an RBI double to take a 2-1 lead going into the 2nd. The bats for both teams would go silent until the top of the 7th where Spencer Marcus would hit an RBI single to knock in Blake Rast and again take the lead at 2-1. Unfortunately, the wheels fell off for DC3 in the bottom of the 7th. Frank Phillips would score 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the 7th and add another 4 unearned runs in the bottom half of the 8th to lead to the 8-2 Conq defeat. \

Game 2 was a better-played game by the Conqs. They again started out strong by scoring 3 runs in the opening frame. That score would stay the same until Frank Phillips would score a run on an RBI double in the bottom of the third. Dodge City would hold firm with that lead, however until the 5th. A double with 2 men on would tie the game at 3. The Conquistadors would answer immediately in the top of the 6th by scoring on a passed ball. In the bottom half, Frank Phillips would plate 2 runs off of a base hit by Ricardo Leonette. That would make it 5-4 and that is how the game would end with Armando Valle shutting the door on the Conqs.

In game 3 the bats were going early and often. The scoring started in the bottom of the first frame with Frank Phillips plating one. Dodge City would answer in the next half on a Hector Carrillo 2 run home run. Dodge City would continue to knock in the runs as they would add a run in the third, fourth, 2 in the fifth, and another 2 in the 7th. In the 3rd Noah Webb scored on an RBI double. The fourth would see Blake Rast knock in a run. The fifth would see Jackson Hogg score, and Armstrong would draw a walk to plate another. Finally, in the 7th the 2 needed insurance runs would come on a 2 RBI double by Blake Rast. Frank Phillips big inning came in the 5th where they were able to score 5 runs. They also scored a run in the last half of the 7th and had the tying and winning runs on base at 2nd and 3rd before Carlos Vizcaya was able to close the door on the game and seal the first win of the year for the Conqs.
Dodge City Community College will head back on the road this weekend for 4 games. First, they will go to Portales, New Mexico to take on the Eastern New Mexico University JV team. After that, they will travel to Las Vegas to play 3 games on Saturday and Sunday against Luna Community College.
