Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. – After just 5 shots in the first half, the Conqs took 8 shots in the second half, but it was still not enough as they fell to Trinidad State Junior College in their season opener on Wednesday afternoon, 3-1.
Trinidad State was able to jump out to an early lead in the first half, scoring in the 37
th minute to make it 1-0.
After heading into the locker room, the Conqs came out with a different fire, earning a penalty kick just six minutes in the the second half.
D'Ana Prieto stepped up to the ball, but was unable to sneak it by the keeper.
Just 14 minutes later,
Liliana Vasquez netted the first goal of the season and the first of her career as she tied the game at one in the 66
th minute.
In the next 12 minutes, the Trojans would connect on two goals to extend their lead to two and that is where the score would stay for the remainder of the game, with the Conqs falling, 3-1.
"We didn't come out to play the way that we wanted to and that cost us," head coach
Steward Bortey said. "We have some things to fix before our next game."
The Conquistador women's soccer team will be in action again on Friday as they travel to Seminole State College at 4 p.m.
