Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Leading for most of the game, the Conquistadors hit free throws late to take down Allen County Community College, 61-52 and split the season series.
Once again,
Allie Baker led the Conquistadors in scoring with 14 pints, while
Alec Fitts had herself a day and scored 12 points.
Kaylee Dale led the way on the boards with nine while
Makaela Ewing and Baker added seven and six respectively.Â
Right out of the gate, Dodge City jumped out to an early four point lead. After the Red Devils tied the game at eight, a three by
Rylee Burris pushed the lead back to four with 2:15 to play. Allen County scored the only basket for the rest of the quarter, cutting the lead to 13-11 at the end of the first.
The Red Devils grabbed their first lead of the game at 16-15 with 7:10 to play in the half, but Burris quickly took the lead right back with a three-pointer of her own. After a scoreless two minutes, Dodge City finished the half on a 7-0 run to take a 27-18 lead into the locker room.
A layup by Baker to start the third quarter, gave the Conqs their largest lead of the game at 11. After cutting the lead to five, the Conquistadors extended their lead back to 10 before the Red Devils were able to cut it to three. Another 5-0 run by Dodge City send the Conquistadors to the fourth quarter leading, 41-35.
The Red Devils tied the game at 41 with 7:47 to play, but the Conquistadors would not give up the lead until two free throws by Kori Seals gave the Red Devils a 45-44 lead. With 5:23 to play, the Conquistadors grabbed the lead back and would not give it away, going 9-for-15 from the free throw line in the final four minutes to win the game, 61-52.
The Conqs are now 11-15 overall on the year and 8-15 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Wednesday as they travel to Independence Community College at 6 p.m. The Pirates won the first matchup of the year, 47-58.
