Conqs Drop KJCCC Contest vs. Indpendence, 58-47

Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Dodge City was unable to lead at any point on Saturday afternoon, as they lost their second straight game, falling to to Independence Community College by a score of 58-47 inside the Student Activity Center.

Kaylee Dale was the only Conquistador to score in double figures as she dropped 15 points, shooting 5-for-8 fromt eh field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Kaylyn Maple was able to pull down five rebounds on the day to lead the Conquistadors.

Early in the first quarter, the Pirates grabbed an early 8-5 lead, but then both teams then went cold for the next two minutes until Independence was able to add another layup and extend their lead to 10-5. By the end of the quarter, the Pirates were able to push their lead to 17-10, with 10 of their 17 points coming in the paint.

Independence scored with 8:38 to play in the half, but just like the first quarter, both teams could not find a rhythm for the next three minutes until Dale knocked down back-to-back free throws to cut the lead back to seven. The Pirates kept pushing and eventually extended their lead to 16 before the Conqs were able to make a run and cut the lead to 11 just before the half. 

The third quarter is where the Conquistadors were able to make a run, as Dodge City quickly cut the lead to five, just four minutes into the quarter. Independence responded very quickly, getting the lead back to 11, just two minutes later. Dodge City was not done, as they went on a 6-0 run to bring the lead back to five, but that was as close as the Conquistadors would get it. 

Early in the fourth quarter, the Pirates took over and eventually got the lead to 17 with 5:42 to play. Dodge City was able to cut the lead to 11 in the final quarter but could not get any closer, falling to Independence, 58-47.

Dodge City moves to 5-9 overall on the year and 2-9 in KJCCC play. The Conquistadors will be in action again on Monday as they host Seward at 5:30 p.m., inside the Student Activity Center.
