Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Only leading for four total minutes in the game, the Dodge City men's basketball team fell to Butler Community College by a score of 75-54 on Saturday afternoon in the Student Activity Center.
Addison Rowley led the way on the offensive side of the ball, scoring 16 points in 28 minutes, going 4-of-5 from the three-point line. Makaela Ewing was the only other Conquistador in double figures, scoring 11 points, while also pulling down a game-high eight rebounds.
The Grizzlies took an early 5-4 lead three minutes into the game, but for the next three minutes, both teams went scoreless until a free throw by Butler broke the scoreless streak and extended the Butler lead. The Grizzlies were able to push the lead to 12-7 with 3:14 to play in the first quarter, but a 6-0 run by Dodge City capped off by a three-pointer by Rylee Burris gave the Conqs a 13-12 lead before a layup by Butler gave the lead back to the Grizzlies heading into the second quarter.
Early in the second quarter, the Grizzlies began to pull away, scoring the first eight points of the quarter to take a 22-13 lead. Rowley then knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to quickly cut the lead back to three points. Both teams then traded points for the remainder of the half, with The Conquistadors heading into the locker room trailing, 34-30.
The third quarter is where Butler took over, outscoring the Conqs 23-9. After Rowley cut the lead to two on another three, the Conquistadors did not collect another field goal for the last 7:42 of the third quarter, heading into the fourth quarter trailing, 57-39.
The closest the game got in the fourth quarter was 16 points, but the Grizzlies were able to hold their lead, defeating Dodge City by a score of 75-54.
The Conquistadors move to 4-5 overall on the year and 2-5 in KJCCC play. Dodge City will be in action again on Wednesday as they travel to Barton Community College at 5:30 p.m.
