Box Score HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Conquistador volleyball team ended its season in the first round of the Region VI Tournament as they fell to Hutchinson Community College in three sets, by scores of, 25-22, 25-13 and 25-17 on Tuesday night.
 
Both teams traded points for the first part of set one, but the Conqs grabbed their first lead of the game at 6-5. Tremendous effort by Gabriella Valdez, falling into the Conquistador bench extended the Dodge City lead to 8-5, early in set one.
 
Hutchinson was able to take the lead back on a kill, but a kill from Jaylen Pegues quickly tied the game at 14. After Hutchinson extended their lead to 17-14, the Conqs came right back and tied the game at 18 and grabbed the lead on a kill from Kate Warren. Raquel Valdez then collected a huge block as she gave Dodge City a 20-18 lead late in set one.
 
Back-to-back kills from the Conqs extended the Dodge City lead to 22-18, but the Blue Dragons would not go away, scoring the next four points to tie the game at 22. Coming out of a timeout by Dodge City, two kills and an attacking error by Hutchinson gave the Blue Dragons a 25-22 win in set one.
 
In set two, the Blue Dragons carried the momentum through the beginning of the set, jumping out to an early 6-2 lead, forcing Dodge City to call their first timeout. After the timeout, Hutchinson stayed hot, extending the lead to 13-4 before the Conqs called their final timeout of the set. Dodge City started a late comeback, but it was too little too late as the Blue Dragons won set two, 25-13.
 
Just as in set two, the Blue Dragons jumped out to an early lead, scoring six of the first eight points, to take a 6-2 lead. After Dodge City cut the lead to 6-4, Hutch quickly pushed the lead to 10-5. After miscommunication and a timeout by Dodge City, the Conqs came out fired up and scored the next four points to cut the lead to 11-10. Hutch would not let the Conqs back in the game, pushing the lead back to 18-13 late in the set. With the season on the line, the Conqs would not go away in set three, cutting the lead to 21-17, Hutchinson was able to score the next four points to win the set, 25-17 and win the match, 3-0.
 
The Conqs finish the 2017 season with an overall record of 19-15.
