Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - A two sets to one lead was not enough for the Dodge City Community College volleyball team, eventually losing to Cloud County in five sets (25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 19-25, 13-15) in a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference match at the DC3 Gymnasium on Wednesday, September 28th.
DC3 saw their five-match winning streak snapped, falling to 14-9 on the year and 3-5 in the KJCCC.
"We played great volleyball tonight but also got complacent at times" said head volleyball coach
Kamri Nehls in a post-game interview. "We had our starting middle go down late in the game and it caused us to be unable to finish the game. Having the rest of the week off will allow us to refocus and alter a few things and come back stronger."
Daisy Cheek led the Conquistadors in assists with 27 and had 12 digs for her second-straight double-double while
Raquel Valdez had 17 kills.
Sada Smith finished with 15 kills and 18 digs while
Mariah Watkins had 12 kills and two solo blocks. Sophomore
Alex Bruey, who was injured late in the fifth set, had 10 kills, two solo blocks and three service aces.
The second half of the KJCCC schedule will get underway on Monday, October 3rd when the Conquistadors head to Great Bend, Kansas to take on Barton Community College at 6:30 p.m. Earlier this season, DC3 pulled out a five-set home thriller to open KJCCC play.
