Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Despite dropping the third set, the Dodge City Community College volleyball team was able to defeat visiting Pratt Community College in four sets in Kansas Jayhawk Community College action at the DC3 gymnasium on Monday, Sept. 26.
DC3 is now 14-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play while the Beavers slipped to 7-18 and 1-6 in the KJCCC.
The first set the Conquistadors lead the entire way, eventually pulling out a 25-23 win after Pratt would close from a 24-18 deficit. In the second set, Dodge City would fall behind early and have to battle their way back eventually fighting off three set points before stringing two points together to win the set 29-27. A sweep would not be in store for the the Conquistadors as Pratt would eek out a 25-23 set three win to send it to a fourth set, which would see DC3 fall behind 8-2 early in the set. Kamri Nehls would challenge her players to close out the match, sophomores
Alex Bruey and
Daisy Cheek would step up in big ways. The Conqs would take the lead for good at 23-22 and pull out a 25-23 set win to take the match as Bruey would have six kills in the fourth set alone while Cheek had seven assists.
For the match, Bruey would have a team-high 14 kills to go along with two solo blocks while
Sada Smith would have 25 digs, eight kills, and one service ace. Cheek finished with a double-double as the Canyon, Texas native would have 21 assists and 11 digs while adding five kills.
Briana Brown would lead DC3 with 24 assists on the night.
The only other KJCCC team that Dodge City has yet to face this year will be in town on Wednesday night as the Conquistadors will play host to the Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. from the DC3 Gymnasium. Both teams are 3-4 in conference play this year, with the winner taking over sole possesion of fifth.
