Box Score GARDEN CITY, Kan. - Two games into conference play and your Dodge City Community College volleyball team is tied for first place in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference following a four-set (25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 25-18) win over Garden City Community College at the Dennis Perryman Athletic Competition Gym in Garden City on Friday, September 2nd.
DCCC is now 4-3 on the year and 2-0 in conference action while the Broncbusters fell to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in KJCCC play.
Outside of the second set, the Conquistadors controlled much of the match despite playing far from their best volleyball. "We didn't play our best volleyball tonight but we were scrappy and continued to play hard" said head coach
Kamri Nehls in a post-game interview. "We had girls who really stepped up and contributed. This was a big win for us, and I'm proud of them."
The Conqs were led by sophomore
Alex Bruey who had 11 kills on the evening.
Raquel Valdez had six total blocks (two solo, four assisted) while
Daisy Cheek paced the Conquistadors in assists with 14 to go along with 10 digs to record a double-double.
After playing seven matches in a span of a week, DC3 will get some much needed down time for the holiday break before hitting the road again on Wednesday, September 7th to take on Colby Community College in a 6:30 p.m. match. The Trojans have won eight straight games after dropping their season opener to Hutchinson in five sets.
