Men's Hoops Keeps Things Rolling in 103-73 Rout of Colby

DODGE CITY, Kan. - A 7-0 deficit was quickly erased by the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team on their way to a 103-73 resounding win over Colby Community College in a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Saturday matchup in Dodge City.

DC3 has won two straight to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the KJCCC while the Trojans slipped to 4-4 overall and 1-4 in the Jayhawk Conference.

Colby would take their largest lead of the game by jumping out and scoring the first seven points of the game to go up 7-0 just 1:24 into the game. The Conqs would fight their way back to tie things up at 14 on a Kourtney Ware layup and take the lead for good a Trevon Evans layup. An 11-0 Conq run would put DC3 up 25-17 with 8:52 remaining in the first half and would take a 12-point lead with 6:41 left in the half before Colby would cut the lead to eight towards the end of the half to trail 45-37 at intermission.

The Trojans would keep within 10 for a good portion of the second half when DC3 would take a 14-point lead on two separate occasions and take a 71-53 lead at the media timeout. Colby would never get closer than 17 points in the final 10 minutes of the game as Dodge City would lead by as many as 33 points and come away with the 30-point victory to win their last two games by a combined 45 points.

"Our first six minutes was not very good, but after that we got locked in and worked our game plan well" said head coach Kyle Campbell in a post-game interview with Damon Post. "We were out-rebounded by eight or nine in the first half, but won the rebounding margin in the game by four which is a testament to our players staying solid and getting comfortable with their roles."

The Conqs made up for their free throw struggles (19-29, 65.5%) by shooting 54.5 percent (36-66) from the field and hitting 12 of 26 shots from behind the three-point line (46.2%). DC3 assisted on 21 of 36 buckets and forced 14 Colby turnovers leading to 24 points. Dodge City would also pound the paint in the game, outscoring the Trojans 44-26.

Sophomore Harris Brown had a game-high 25 points and hauled in five rebounds to go along with four assists and three steals. Josh Boutte rebounded from an off night on Tuesday at Neosho by scoring 24 points and grabbing 13 boards while Nick Noskowiak hit three three's to finish with 11 points. Mike Jones had six points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes of action off the bench while Dayton McGroarty played a season-high 18 minutes.

A key KJCCC matchup is up next for the Conqs when they take on Garden City Community College on Wednesday, November 30th at 8 p.m. The Broncbusters are 7-1 and 3-1 in the KJCCC heading into a home game against Independence tonight.
