DC3 Basketball Leads Wire-To-Wire in Upset Win At Neosho

CHANUTE, Kan. - Jumping out to a 12-3 lead in the opening minutes of the game, the Dodge City Community College men's basketball never trailed in a complete and dominant performance by upsetting No. 13 nationally-ranked Neosho County by a final score of 89-72 in Chanute on Tuesday, November 22nd.

DC3 is now 5-2 overall and evens their Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference at 2-2 while the Panthers fall to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the KJCCC.

After leading by nine less than three minutes into the game, Neosho would tie the game at 14 apiece with 15:06 remaining in the first half and keep the score within five points at the media timeout. Towards the end of the first half, Dodge City would start hitting shots from deep to go up by 16 when Trevon Evans hit his third consecutive trey in as many possesions for the Conqs. The Panthers would end the half on an 8-0 run to close within six at 49-43 at intermission.

DC3 opened the second half similar to the first and jumped right back out to a double-digit lead and take their largest lead of the game at 10:07 left in the game on a Harris Brown triple. Neosho would make one last run at trying to close the gap, but would get no closer than 13 points with 6:21 remaining before the Conqs would respond with a Kourtney Ware three to take all the life out of the Panther crowd.

Dodge City tied a season-high with 13 three-point field goals equaling the number that they hit in their season opener against Fort Carson while also holding 19-14 points off turnovers advantage. The Conquistadors finished 33 of 69 (47.8%) from the field despite shooting only 55.6 percent (9-15) from the free-throw line. A 43-34 advantage on the boards would also make a difference in the game as 17 offensive rebounds by Dodge City led to 15 second-chance points.

Evans and Brown each had a team-high 16 points for DC3 with each player also adding five assists. Ware picked up where he left off last Wednesday at Pratt by hitting three triples and finishing with 13 points while Nick Noskowiak find his way out of a recent funk by hitting three treys and finishing with 11 points. The Panthers were led by Marc Moon who had a game-high 20 points and nine defensive rebounds.

Saturday will be the next chance for the Conquistadors to finally break through and get over .500 in the KJCCC when they host Colby Community College at the Student Activities Center at 3 p.m.
