Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Looking to get the week started on a good note, the Dodge City Community College volleyball team swept Garden City Community College in three sets (25-22, 25-18, 26-24) in their last-ever match at the DC3 Gymnasium on Wednesday, October 5th.
DC3 is now 15-10 overall and 4-6 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference after winning both matches against Garden City this season while the Lady Broncbusters fell to 4-20 on the year and 1-9 in conference play.
"I thought we played fairly well tonight" said head coach
Kamri Nehls in a post-game interview. "We got a little bit complacent there in the third set, but we showed the heart and determination to get the job done."
Missing a few key players due to injuries sustained in matches last week,
Briana Brown led the match with 19 assists while
Raquel Valdez had 13 kills and one service ace. Sophomore
Sada Smith had 13 digs to go along with 12 kills and one solo block to notch another double-double while
Tenille Tholen had one of her best defensive games of the year.
Familiar foes await the Conquistadors, who will travel to Seminole, Oklahoma to take part in the Seminole State College tournament this weekend. Dodge City will open play up at 2 p.m. against Brookhaven College on Friday before taking on Vernon College at 6 p.m. Saturday's action will feature the Conqs playing against Clarendon College at 12 p.m. before ending the tournament against host Seminole State College at 4 p.m.
