Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - The Dodge City Community College volleyball team ran into a hot hitting Hutchinson Community College, falling in straight sets by scores of 17-25, 20-25, and 20-25 at the DC3 Student Activities Center on Friday, October 14th.
With the loss, DC3 is now 18-13 and 4-8 in conference play while the Blue Dragons improved to 9-2 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and 18-11 overall.
"I think we underestimated them a little bit and fatigue finally caught up to us tonight" said head volleyball coach
Kamri Nehls in a post-game interview. "We lacked energy tonight and we weren't on our game which allowed their middle hitters to take advantage of us." "We need to take care of these next four conference games so that we can shake up the conference a bit and make our mark heading into the conference tournament."
Dodge City appeared to have the wind taken out of their sails early and could never recover as Hutchinson would jump out to early leads in all three sets and keep the foot on the gas pedal.
Daisy Cheek would have 14 assists in the match while
Sada Smith had 11 digs to go along with one service ace.
Mariah Watkins would lead the team with seven kills and one solo block while Mickey Kreigh had two solo blocks.
Sophomore night will take place on Monday, October 17th for the Conquistadors, who will play host to rival Seward County Community College at 6:30 p.m. from the Student Activities Center. The record-setting sophomore class which includes Smith, Watkins, Cheek,
Tenille Tholen,
Briana Brown, and
Alex Bruey will all be honored prior to the game.
